« Global », vous avez dit « global » ?

Un début juillet en fanfare, au siège européen des Nations Unies, où ont défilé chefs d’Etat, fonctionnaires internationaux et chefs d’entreprises réunis au chevet de l’économie mondiale – « globalisée », selon le vocable idoine. Ce sont ainsi près d’un millier de participants qui se sont pressés au grand raout du « Global Compact Leaders Summit », initiative lancée en 2000 par Kofi Annan.

En tête des invités remarqués à Genève, l’actuel secrétaire général de l’ONU, le Sud-Coréen Ban Ki Moon; le ministre français des affaires étrangères, Bernard Kouchner; mais aussi le patron de Coca Cola Nevill Isidell, des représentants de Nokia, IBM, Fedex ou encore General Motors.

Deux jours de sommet pour une « Déclaration » fondée sur dix principes clés autour d’un fil rouge: renforcer la responsabilité des entreprises en matière de droits de l’homme, de protection de l’environnement et de lutte contre la corruption. Ce, au nom d’un « nouvel esprit » afin de promouvoir le « rôle sociétal du business » et contribuer aux fameux « Objectifs du Millénaire » de réduction de la pauvreté.

Mais, à l’heure où les puissants de ce monde réunis au pays de l’horloge fleurie planchaient sur cette « globalisation du global », dans la salle des pas perdus du Palais des Nations, à quelques mètres de là, s’affichaient sur des ordinateurs alignés et bien esseulés le timide message suivant: « Apologies: Internet Access Not Available » (Nos excuses: accès internet indisponible ».)

Va pour le Global Compact… Quant à un « Global Contact », il semble bien devoir attendre…

  3. Du côté d’Angela Merkel, l’antienne est connue. Venue à Toulouse discuter avec Nicolas Sarkozy de l’avenir d’EADS et d’Airbus, lundi 16 juillet, la chancelière allemande a une nouvelle fois répété sa conception de la BCE : « L’indépendance de la Banque centrale est très importante pour la zone euro », a lancé Mme Merkel, expliquant qu’il revenait aux politiques économiques des différents pays de l’Union de s’accorder afin qu’il n’y ait « pas trop de répercussions sur les taux de change ». sur.www.lemonde.fr

WASHINGTON – Le secrétaire général de l’ONU Ban Ki-moon a appelé lundi à un vote rapide cette semaine du Conseil de sécurité sur un projet de résolution autorisant le déploiement d’une force conjointe ONU/Union africaine au Darfour (ouest du Soudan). La région est déchirée par la guerre civile.

    « J’espère sincèrement que le Conseil de sécurité prendra les mesures nécessaires cette semaine, afin de permettre à plus de 20’000 militaires et policiers civils (de se déployer au Darfour) », a déclaré M. Ban à la presse. « La résolution appelle les Etats membres à finaliser leur contribution (en effectifs) sous 90 jours », a-t-il ajouté.

    La semaine dernière, la Grande-Bretagne, la France et le Ghana ont fait circuler au Conseil de sécurité un projet de résolution autorisant le déploiement d’une force ONU-UA pendant un an.

  9. On aura au moins vu un Français jubiler en haut du Galibier. A défaut d’assister à la consécration du champion de France Christophe Moreau, c’est le champion de la « France d’après », qui, mardi, a fait la course en tête. Il a terminé l’épreuve cheveux au vent, debout dans la voiture du directeur du Tour, franchissant la ligne d’arrivée dans le sillage du vainqueur colombien du jour. Cette étape entre Val-d’Isère et Briançon dont on attendait un bouleversement du classement général fut en définitive plutôt terne. Notre président-joggeur, qui est aussi, comme chacun sait, un président-cycliste, a assuré le spectacle.

    PRESS RELEASE

    Thursday, 12.7: Israeli High Court of Justice hearing on a petition filed by a married couple – an Israeli woman and a Palestinian man – who are not permitted by Israeli law to live together.

    The couple, Jasmin Avissar and Ossama Za’tar, are requesting to fulfill their right to a married life and to freedom of movement between their places of abode: Jasmin’s family home in Beit Nekofa, Israel, and Ossama’s family home in the village of Qarawat Bani Zeid in the Occupied Territories.

    There is no legal solution to their problem either in Israel or in the Occupied Territories, since a recent amendment to the Israeli Citizenship Law denies Palestinians the right to live with their Israeli spouses in Israel. For this reason, the couple was obliged to seek refuge in Germany, where they are free to live together.

    Due to their sense of identification with thousands of other couples in their situation, and their deep disappointment in the Israeli judicial system, which chose not to stop this discriminatory law, Jasmin and Ossama believe that the subject should be discussed in the High Court of Justice.

    Jasmin and Ossama also wish to expose and protest the unbearable obstacles encountered by all those wishing to move among the system of barriers and checkpoints erected over the past decade in the West Bank.

    Avissar: “Since my partner was not permitted to live in Israel, I was obliged to fight for the right to live with him in Ramallah. During my stay there, I underwent daily harassment, delays and humiliation at the hands of the IDF soldiers who are posted at hundreds of checkpoints within the West Bank. I was denied the possibility of visiting my family and my work in Israel in a consistent manner, and I was denied freedom of movement within the West Bank, thus curtailing our ability to run a normal family life with the Palestinian members of our family as well. Our situation within the West Bank was similar to that of 3.9 million Palestinians, who live under an unbearable system of restrictions.”

    The couple also report direct harassment at the hands of the Israeli security forces during their stay in Ramallah, due to their wish to preserve contact with both their Israeli and their Palestinian relatives. Avissar: “The army broke into our home in the middle of the night to order Ossama to an interrogation by the General Security Service (GSS), who threatened him that if he continued his contacts with Israeli family members and friends, he would find himself in prison.”

    The couple, although now living in Germany, do not want to give up their struggle. Za’tar: “We wanted to lead a simple life, as free people. We are young, and our only act was to fall in love and wish to live together, but the State of Israel has not permitted us these basic rights, taken for granted by every citizen. All this for the simple reason that my partner is Israeli whereas I am Palestinian.”

    The hearing on the petition, submitted by Atty. Michael Sfard, will be held on 12.7.2007 at 8am.
